From Mark 10:9 of the bible, it is stated that “Therefore what has God joined together, let not man separate. As far as Christianity is concerned God does not allow a husband and wife to be separated unless there is sexual unfaithfulness on either party. Although one may be practicing Christianity, its still obvious that people have different perceptions about marriage. These multitude of reasons why partners marry sometimes may lead them in a rough situation when both of them might ask themselves why they marry in the first place.
Others may think that this is just a commitment of both husband and wife simply because everyone should undergo in this special contract as part of our existence in this world and some may think that this is more than that.
Other Christians thought that it is not just a vow between a man and a woman but a vow acknowledged by God. A Christian marriage is more than just the union of two Christians of the opposite sex. A Christian marriage is characterized and governed by Christian principles that are taught in the Bible.
A survey from a research agency in the US shows that over 50 % of married couples divorce. A year. The result for remarriages is more alarming for it has an estimate of 75% that lead to divorce and it more dismal that marital therapy often fails. Among people 50 and older who said infidelity caused their divorce, 93 percent of women and 78 percent of men said their spouse was the one at fault. Some causes of divorce are extramarital affairs, workaholism, Abuse (Physical or emotional) and mid-life crisis.
It's also alarming to know that the rate of divorce among Christians is higher that the general population. This survey only shows that there are percentage of married couples who are suffering from marriage problems. In other countries even though that there is a population of Christian citizens still their laws acknowledge divorce as a remedy to solve marriage problems.
The research shows an evidence on how easily a marriage can end. Is it really true that stage of courting is better than life after marriage? Does love loses its salt after marriage? Could there be ways to save marriage when all things gets tough or there isn't at all?
Answer to the first two questions is no. Nowadays, even not to the point of committing divorce, there are also married couples who are in the same way are unconsciously suffer unhealthy marriage. From the viewpoint of Christianity there are ways on how to improve Christian marriage.
First is GOD. Keep God first everyday in your lives. Know who God is. His plans and will for both of you. It is for sure that it is God's will for both of you not to be separated. Be in sync with God for he knows everything. Always remember that is not about the problem but how God can solve the problem. The problem with many Christians is that they take the problem by themselves. We are not God and we can't control situations like this. Let God be at work for both of you.
Second is PRAY. We must always remember that Christianity is about having a relationship with God. Always make it a habit that both you read the bible everyday. God communicates with us through his words and we to him through prayers.
Third is to make time to communicate. Share you views to each other. Be swift to hear and slow to speak. This will make your relationship more intimate.
Fourth is that you should respect and honor each other. Even though that both of you are binded, it's also a reality that both of you are different. Learn to understand your differences.
Fifth is to encourage each other to grow together. If the other makes a mistake, don't be too harsh. Understand that we have always imperfections in our lives. Encouragement makes a person feel that he is loved.
Sixth is to thank God everyday. We must thank him not only when we have something but also when have nothing. It is written in the bible that we are part of God's suffering. Trials are natural and important for it makes both the two of you to persevere to save your marriage.
And Seventh is to understand that “love” is not a feeling, its a choice.
